runtm domain

Manage custom domains for your deployments.

Commands

`runtm domain add`	Add custom domain
`runtm domain status`	Check domain status
`runtm domain remove`	Remove custom domain

domain add

Add a custom domain to a deployment.

runtm domain add <deployment_id> <hostname>

Arguments

Argument	Required	Description
`deployment_id`	Yes	Deployment ID
`hostname`	Yes	Custom domain (e.g., `api.example.com`)

Examples

runtm domain add dep_abc123xyz api.example.com

Output

Adding domain api.example.com to dep_abc123xyz...

✓ Certificate created

Configure DNS:

  Record Type  Name              Value
  CNAME        api.example.com   dep_abc123xyz.fly.dev

After DNS propagates, your domain will be active with HTTPS.

Check status: runtm domain status dep_abc123xyz api.example.com

Custom domains only work with ready deployments.

domain status

Check the status of a custom domain.

runtm domain status <deployment_id> <hostname>

Arguments

`hostname`	Yes	Custom domain to check

runtm domain status dep_abc123xyz api.example.com

Output

Certificate Status

Status	Description
`pending`	Waiting for DNS verification
`issued`	Certificate active
`failed`	Certificate issuance failed

domain remove

Remove a custom domain from a deployment.

runtm domain remove <deployment_id> <hostname>

Arguments

Argument	Required	Description
`deployment_id`	Yes	Deployment ID
`hostname`	Yes	Custom domain to remove

Options

Option	Short	Description
`--force`	`-f`	Skip confirmation

Examples

# With confirmation
runtm domain remove dep_abc123xyz api.example.com

# Skip confirmation
runtm domain remove dep_abc123xyz api.example.com --force

DNS Configuration

CNAME Record (Subdomains)

For subdomains like api.example.com:

Type	Name	Value
CNAME	`api`	`your-app.fly.dev`

A Record (Apex Domains)

For apex domains like example.com, you’ll need to use Fly.io’s dedicated IPs. Contact support for apex domain setup.

DNS Propagation

DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally, though most propagate within minutes. Check propagation with:

dig api.example.com CNAME

Troubleshooting

'Certificate pending' for too long

Verify DNS is configured correctly:

dig api.example.com CNAME

The output should show your Fly.io URL.

'Deployment not ready'

Custom domains only work with ready deployments:

runtm status dep_abc123xyz

'Domain already in use'

The domain may be configured on another deployment. Remove it first:

runtm domain remove dep_old123 api.example.com
